Summer Experiences in Greater Lowell

Since 2000, Summer Experiences in Greater Lowell, or SEGL, has provided children in our community with enriching summer learning and recreational experiences when school is closed. In 2010, the initiative provided more than $100,000 to 13 Greater Lowell agencies. Through SEGL, thousands of children participated annually in quality summer programs, developing leadership, social and academic skills that will empower them for life.

  • Children are safe, productive and continue learning during the summer. This helps close the achievement gap between those who can afford summer programs and those who cannot.
  • Working families have quality, affordable daycare during the summer months.
  • Community organizations have the additional funding they need to meet the increasing demand for summer programs. Diversity is fostered by bringing a wide range of children from different cultural and economic backgrounds to learn and play together.

This year’s initiative comittee is co-chaired by Ginger Pearson Burke, Director of Advancement Administration at UMASS Lowell and Joyce Leger, Sr. Human Resources Manager at Bard Electrophysiology, a division of C.R. Bard.
