How Rev. John M. Borders Lives United

I'm Pastor John Borders of the Morning Star Baptist Church in Mattapan and I LIVE UNITED first through body, soul, and spirit. What's important to me is making sure that there's a connection to the younger generation of our city and of our country. They need support of fathers and mothers. They need support of pastors, of teachers, of politicians, of local business people. And the United Way has a marvelous charge of bringing all of this together through community support, through the Boys and Girls clubs which we've supported, through large corporations that allow their members and employees to make donations through the United Way. Because this is one organization that believes in the brotherhood and sisterhood of all humanity. Living United. that's what we're trying to do. That's what we encourage you to do. I LIVE UNITED by being a good father... We're doing our best to reach students and young people who attend our congregation, and in doing so I've become like a father, or an uncle, or a mentor, or an elder to a lot of the young people in this church. My sons and my daughters are wise enough to recognize that parenthood is a broad idea. They are my biological children, but we also have other children through this church community. The idea of Living United is seeing ourselves as one large united family.
