2008-a year of change

A new philanthropic landscape

"Gen X will be the next generation of generous women philanthropists. Recent research shows that this generation expects to receive an inheritance, thinks of themselves as philanthropists, and wants to give away their money during their lifetime.” Sondra Shaw-Hardy commented in The Chronicle of Philanthropy News Update's "Nonprofit Leaders and Experts Offer Their Predictions for 2008."

2008—a new year full of resolutions, big aspirations and a sense of wanting to leave behind a legacy. After skimming through articles, blogs and emails I realized the sense of wanting to help our community begins one person at a time—whether you're giving your time and a listening ear to local teens or establishing your bequest to help future generations—it all comes down to action. A new year of change is here. What will generation X do neXt? Will you get involved?

The definition and landscape of philanthropy is changing rapidly and creating new avenues and ways of giving—we all have the potential to leave a legacy. What type of legacy will you leave your neighborhood, hometown or community?
