United Way gets into the music business

Hear that Diddy?

On Wednesday, May 27th from 5:30-7:30pm, A team of youth from United Way's Youth Venture initiative will be launching their debut CD at Sociedad Latina's Spring Sayonara Event. The event will take place at Berklee College of Music in the David Friend Recital Hall at 921 Boylston St. And, good news! Readers of small nonprofit blogs that rhyme with "SneakDorighted" are welcomed to attend. See the attached flier for more information or call Sociedad Latina at 617-442-4299.

Youth Venture is a program that invests in teams of young people, ages 12-18, to start social projects that create positive, lasting change in their communities. Teams then present their plans to a selection panel and the strongest proposals are provided seed funding up to $1,000, guidance, tools, and support from adult allies to successfully implement their ventures.

Last year, youth from Sociedad Latina applied for Youth Venture Funding. They wanted to raise awareness about youth issues in their community by using music videos as a platform for emerging musicians at Sociedad Latina to communicate their experiences.

On Wednesday, we'll get a chance to hear some of the music behind the project. Can't wait until then? Here are some audio links of past Sociedad Latina recordings:
