Action Alert: Call your representative today!
Seeking strong, passionate voices. No experience necessary.
Please help us advocate for low income families today by supporting two very important amendments:
Ammendment #567 filed by Rep. Honan which would level fund the Mass. Rental Voucher Program (line item 7004-9024). This program provides subsidized housing for very low income families. Withouth this restoration in funds, as many as 2,000 families will be at risk of homelessness. Given all the progress that the state has made in moving to a 'housing first" model, we should not allow ourselves to slip back. This program is effective and will save the Commonwealth the much larger cost of sheltering homeless families down the road.
Amendment #592 filed by Rep. Cabral which would ensure funds collected in this line item to be spent on foreclosure prevention and first time homebuyer counseling. Funding from this program goes to advance foreclosure prevention for hundreds of families. United Way is one of approximately 20 organizations statewide that receives funding from this program for our foreclosure work.
How to help: Call your State Representative TODAY (4/30). If you are not sure who he/she is, go to: http://www.wheredoivotema.com and plug in your address. Click on “Find my Election Information” and then scroll down to find your state representative (labeled “Rep. in General Court”). Click on that name and you will get his/her phone number (or you can call the main State House switchboard at 617-722-2000 and ask for him/her). Ask to speak to your State Representative. If he or she is unavailable (which is likely), then leave a message with the person who answers the phone or an aide to the Representative.
If you have not ever called your State Representative, you will be amazed at how easy it is. You will also be surprised at how your call can make a significant impact on the lives of children and families.
