Lt. Governor Murray at the Leadership Summit on Housing First.
It's fascinating, when you read the comments after the Boston Herald's article on the effort to end homelessness in 5 years, you get a lot of incredulous people calling the plan impractical or unrealistic. One guy even called it a " feel-good MOONBAT fantasy." It just goes to show how ingrained the idea of homelessness has become in our culture. People think that it has always been a problem, that it will always be a problem. I have to admit, while I refrained from using words like "moonbat," a few years ago I would have thought the problem was unbeatable too. But after seeing the research, Hearing about Housing First and some of its success stories, I started to believe. More than believe, I started to see the unequivocal need and practicality of doing so. Financially, socially, morally it became an imperative for me -- this is one of those chronic social issues, where we can truly throw a stake in the ground and say "enough." And in 5 years, the Commonwealth could be a very different place for individuals and families at risk of homelessness.
