Teachers Rock Nominees: Graduates of Tufts' Science Educators Program
The following nomination was written by Carole Bersani:
Name of the teacher who rocks!: A Group of 22
School in which she/he teaches: Seven Districts in Massachusetts
Briefly, describe why::
I am a Program Administrator for a group of 22 individuals who teach in high need school districts across seven districts in the wonderful state of Massachusetts.
Each of these teachers has successfully completed a rigorous graduate level program at Tufts University created specifically for K-8 science educators. Currently, the group is spreading the science love so to speak. They all have the overwhelming support of their building administrators, as well as their district superintendents. I feel that they all represent fine examples of 'the village raising the child'.
Some of the highlights of their work thus far include initiating a science buddies program between eighth graders and fourth graders, facilitating after-school study groups with colleagues, acting as mentors to new teachers and teachers new to science, and helping to create an easier and more successful transition from middle school to high school.
Through all of their efforts, they are creating a renewed sense of community with a common goal of engaging not only the students, but the teachers as well. They have been trained in cutting edge pedagogy and methodology on how to incorporate creative and engaging lessons that will motivate and inspire our young people to be active members of their classrooms, school communities, and upon graduation, the greater society.
