Teachers Rock Nominee: Mairead Orpen

Teacher: Mairead Orpen

In my 7 years of teaching I have never met a more dedicated language arts teacher. Mairead takes the time and energy to let every student that she interacts with know that she is an advocate for their future. Students enjoy her class because she makes learning fun; not only does she tap into each learning style when she teaches a topic, but it is as if she remembers the challenges from when she was in middle school and so she works hard to intertwines steps to success within all projects and tasks. She sees the challenges that students will have ahead of time so that her proactive nature and planning will help them get over the bumps before they feel them.

She spends time listening to her students. She helps them problem solve so that they feel prepared and confident when they leave the 6th grade. Not only does she hold students accountable for excellence, but more importantly she guides them and teaches them how they can reach the standard by working smarter instead of harder. I miss teaching with her every day, and I know in my heart that the students she is working with are some of the luckiest kids in school.
