How to fix our schools

by Michelle Rhee, Joel Klein and Boston's Carol R. Johnson (and others)

On Sunday, the Washington Post ran an op-ed co-authored by Carol Johnson*, superintendent of Boston Public Schools; Joel Klein, chancellor, New York City Department of Education; Michelle Rhee, chancellor, District of Columbia Public Schools and a collection of other educators from across the country entitled "How to Fix our Schools."  The op-ed, which the authors categorized as "A Manifesto"  has already accumulated nearly 400 comments.  Comments now are closed on the Washington Post website, but we'd still like to hear what you think.

Tell us how you think it applies to schools in our region and what you think we can do, as a community to increase the odds of success for our children.

Do you know a teacher who is knocking it out of the park? Nominate them to receive  recognition and hundreds of dollars in school supplies in our TEACHERS ROCK campaign.

*Carol Johnson is also a member or United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley's Board of Directors.
