Two United Way partners are working to help families return to their foreclosed homes.
In today's Boston Globe there is an article about two nonprofits that are working with banks and other groups to help those who have been foreclosed upon get back into their homes. City Life/Vida Urbana and Greater Boston Legal Services are providing legal advice and advocacy to help these families renegotiate mortgages with lenders, stay in their home communities, and prevent neighborhood blight. This is a great article that describes the benefits of keeping families where they are - both from a neighborhood perspective and a financial perspective for lenders.
The article also mentions the federal funds that have been put forward by the Obama Administration to help families facing foreclosure. Unfortunately, many resources have not yet been realized in local communities. Here we see two examples of local organizations doing anything they can while even broader-based efforts are beginning to be implemented.
