Teachers Rock Winners!

Thanks to your sea of nominations (over two hundred!) it took us a bit longer than we expected to tally the winners for our Teacher's Rock Campaign.  Today, I'm happy to announce that we have 10 winning teachers.  We were incredibly inspired by all of the nominations and thank everyone for sending them in.  The winning teachers will receive $500 for school supplies from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.  read more »

The Lee family, United Way supporters, recently shared with us this letter to santa hand-written by their daughter Taylor.We were so touched by the message in the letter, we thought we'd share it with all of you. Here comes the food!!! Preparations for Saturday's Thanksgiving Project

A few photos I love of volunteers getting food ready for the Thanksgiving Project this Saturday throughout the region.  Thanks to donors, volunteers, Catholic Charities, Interfaith Social Services, Lazarus House and Weymouth Food Pantry, we're going to be providing groceries to 5,000 families!  UPS volunteers helped us today to unload a lot of the supplies.

How to fix our schools

On Sunday, the Washington Post ran an op-ed co-authored by Carol Johnson*, superintendent of Boston Public Schools; Joel Klein, chancellor, New York City Department of Education; Michelle Rhee, chancellor, District of Columbia Public Schools and a collection of other educators from across the country entitled "How to Fix our Schools."  The op-ed, which the authors categorized as "A Manifesto"  has already accumulated nearly 400 comments.  Comments now are closed on the Washington Post website, but we'd still like to hear what you think.  read more »
